Choosing the right diamonds can be a tricky task. There’s a lot of things to consider:

  • What colour diamond should you go for?

Whilst it is difficult to see subtle differences in colour by naked eye, the change in colour can greatly affect the value and quality of the diamond. The less body colour a diamond has the more desirable it becomes.

  • What cut should you go for?

When considering what cut you should choose, we suggest you consider what you will be using the diamond for.  There are 9 different cuts to choose from each with different properties, that disperse the light differently and overall give different effects when set in a piece of jewellery. We recommend you view the different cuts in a shop so you can compare and contrast the pros and cons of each.

  • Should you choose something “off the shelf” or create something bespoke?

Whilst there are many great options in store you may opt to design something bespoke, but who should you go to? And how do you get the ball rolling with the design process?

It’s an important decision, so feeling confident in your choice is crucial.

Four Of The 'Most Asked Questions' Regarding Diamonds

  • q-iconWhat are the 4C's?

When selecting the perfect diamond there are four different elements to consider; cut, colour, clarity and carat. These elements all add up to the end value and beauty of the diamond, so it’s important you understand what it is your looking for.

  • q-iconWhat has the greatest influence on a diamonds sparkle?

The cut of a diamond has the greatest influence on its sparkle, this aspect is crucial to the diamonds appearance. When cut to the proper proportions light is returned out from the top of the diamond and refracts back out the top with very little light lost.

  • q-iconCan I buy diamonds online?

Although there are plenty of great online retailers, we suggest you look in a shop first. You can’t always guarantee what your buying online, especially if you don’t buy from a specialist. If you do buy online make sure  the seller is reputable and you follow the four C’s to ensure you get high quality diamonds.

  • q-iconHow do I keep my diamonds as sparkly as possible?

In order for your jewellery to last a lifetime it’s important you get it regularly cleaned and check your jewellery for signs of wear and tear. The sooner you notice damage the easier it is to repair. We recommend you get your jewellery cleaned and serviced once a year, and at Hatton Jewellery we offer a range of services to ensure your jewellery looks as good as it did when you first got them.
